Eliminating Procrastination From Christian Home Schooling

Christian home schooling can be the ideal vessel for providing your child with a quality education that follows your family morals and values. While it can be easier for your child in many ways, procrastination can creep in making it a lot harder than it needs to be.

This is often more prevalent among those in high school homeschool since they often have more control over their education by that point. If you have noticed your child fighting with the nasty ‘p’ word, here are three ways you can teach them to deal with it.

Dealing With Large Tasks

When we look at the mountain of work we have in front of us, it can be difficult to get ourselves motivated to overcome it. Those in Christian home schooling are no different. Large projects often seem impossible to complete.

Instead of having your high school homeschool student feel like he or she needs to climb a mountain, show him how to break it into chunks that are more manageable. Then, show your student how to work these pieces into a schedule by estimating the amount of time each will take and prioritizing.

Distractions

Distractions are a great way for us as humans to avoid the things we don’t particularly want to do or find interest in. Those involved in Christian home schooling will also notice it. In reality, there are days when it doesn’t matter what we seem to do; it can be difficult to just put our noses to the grindstone and go. Thankfully, it isn’t as hard to combat as we may think it is at the time.

Taking breaks at regular intervals is a highly effective way for your high school homeschool student to eliminate the mental and physical distractions. It not only helps relax the mind for a short period of time, but that break period can also help act as a motivator.

Finally, make sure they are in a learning-friendly environment that helps them eliminate distractions. This could include removing attention-grabbing items such as the television from the space, and ensuring they have sharp pencils and everything they need each day right at their fingertips.

Time Constraints

In many instances, high school homeschool students feel procrastination because they lack traditional time constraints. They feel they have lots of time to complete their project or chapter, so they keep putting it off in favor of other things until it is too late. You can eliminate this in your Christian home schooling program by setting constraints. Use an hourly schedule to help limit the time they have for certain tasks. If you find that they still procrastinate, tighten the schedule up to help give them that sense of urgency.

Large tasks, distractions, and time are just three contributing factors that lead to procrastination for a high school homeschool student. By following some of the tips above, you can help eliminate this from your Christian home schooling curriculum and help your child learn smart time management at the same time.
